Beginning April 20, public can weigh in on improvements to Buffalo's waterfront

In one of its first initiatives as new venue manager, locally based Canalside Management Group (CMG) is offering Western New Yorkers the opportunity to share feedback and provide input about their Canalside experience.

One of the new management group's primary goals is to evaluate the space and programming offered in order to guide improvements and decisions moving forward.

"We know there are many aspects of Canalside that our community loves. Still, we acknowledge that there is always room for improvement and growth. But instead of considering these questions on our own, we are looking to the community for input," said Matt LaSota, Canalside's general manager.

To capture this feedback online, CMG created the Canalside Community Survey, which can be taken anonymously/confidentially at www.CanalsideResearch.com.

There are 25 questions, giving survey participants a chance to rate and offer an opinion on a wide range of topics, including activities offered, concerts, dining options and water sports, to name a few. The survey takes five minutes to complete and will be available until May 5.

CMG will consider survey results when developing programming, schedules and events for Canalside. Survey participants will also have the option to opt-in to be considered for future public research opportunities.

"As a locally based organization, we're committed to our hometown. It's important for us to start a dialogue with our residents - giving them a chance to be heard," LaSota said. "We understand how important Canalside is to our city and region. More than that, we share in the pride Western New Yorkers feel in our transformed waterfront. And we look forward to making the Canalside experience even better, thanks to input from our community."

About Canalside

Canalside is a growing regional destination and entertainment district, situated on 21 historic acres along downtown Buffalo's emerging waterfront on the Buffalo River. Canalside earns its name from its storied past, when the Erie Canal Harbor was built in 1825 as the western terminus of the Erie Canal. Until recently, the land was barren and inaccessible, but the area has been reclaimed by the state's Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp., and developed with millions of dollars in public and private investment.
