The Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission received a $1,763,222 capital improvement grant on Tuesday from the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York with the assistance of M&T Bank. The award to NGRM is part of the FHLBNY affordable housing initiative program. It will help provide much-needed affordable housing to those in need in the City of Niagara Falls.

The former YMCA building at 1317 Portage Road will receive handicap access features and upgrades to its interior and to allow for modern and up-to-date housing for low income-qualified persons in Niagara Falls.

The original building dates back to the 1920s. A four-story addition was built in 1957.
