NBC Olympics' primetime coverage of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, continued Tuesday night on the networks of NBCUniversal.

Primetime host Bob Costas opened up coverage on NBC from NBC Olympics' studio located inside the International Broadcast Center in Rio. Primetime coverage on Day 4 of the Rio Games on NBC was highlighted by Michael Phelps capturing his record 20th and 21st career gold medals with victories in the 200m fly and the U.S. team's 200m free relay; Katie Ledecky earning her second gold medal of the Rio Games in the 200m free final; and Simone Biles and the U.S. women's gymnastics team's dominant gold-medal performance in the team competition.

This evening's coverage also featured the U.S. women's soccer team's tie against Colombia on NBCSN; Elina Svitolina's upset of Serena Williams in women's tennis on Bravo; and the U.S. men's rugby team's win vs. Brazil on CNBC.

Following are highlights from evening and primetime coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games on the networks of NBCUniversal:

•SWIMMING - NBC

Analyst Rowdy Gaines on Ledecky after her win in the 200m free final: "Wonder Woman is right there in the pool. We've got her right in Rio. She has shown us the future of swimming."

Gaines on Phelps' win over le Clos in the 200m fly, minutes after Ledecky's win: "We had Wonder Woman a minute ago - now we've got Superman coming into the wall. Twenty - count 'em - 20 gold medals!"

Play-by-play announcer Dan Hicks following Phelps' win over le Clos: "And le Clos didn't even medal! And Phelps says, 'Let's hear it.' Look who's back on top in the 200m fly."

Gaines on le Clos' intimidation tactics on Phelps - le Clos finished fourth: "I said he was either a genius or nuts - I think he was nuts."

Gaines on Phelps, following the Americans' win in the 200m free relay: "This guy's exhausted. He needs a good night's sleep. He's only halfway. That's three down, three to go."

•GYMNASTICS - NBC

Analyst Nastia Liukin Liukin on this team dubbing itself the 'Final Five': "It means the 'Final Five' of Martha Karolyi. That's special." (This is Karolyi's final Olympic team, and the final five-woman team. In four years, teams will have four members.)

Analyst Tim Daggett: "That's a big 'Thank you' to Martha Karolyi. What a legacy."

Daggett on the U.S. women's team: "I can't emphasize enough how hard it is at this level - not only do they do the hardest gymnastics in the world, they execute it better than anyone else. ... I was searching my brain for a different sports team that could compare - the 1972 Dolphins had an undefeated team and went on to win the Super Bowl. This team doesn't just win every game - they destroy the competition, and they've been doing it for five years."

Play-by-play announcer Al Trautwig on Gabby Douglas' uneven bars performance: "That's what an Olympic champion looks like."

Liukin on Madison Kocian's uneven bars performance: "That is why they put Madison Kocian on this team."

Daggett on Kocian's performance, after noting her mother was too nervous to watch her routine: "Mom would have loved to watch that live, but she'll revel in it probably for the rest of her days. ... This is what you call textbook."

•TENNIS - BRAVO

Studio analyst Jon Wertheim following Williams' loss to Svitolina: "We don't want to minimize Svitolina's match of her career - but, boy, clearly something is not right with Serena Williams. We've seen her so many times when she hasn't been 100 percent physically or emotionally. We've still see her win those matches - it was surprising to see her go down."

Studio host Brett Haber: "We've never seen that level of service yips, lack of power, lack of rhythm from, as Mary Carillo correctly called her, the greatest server of the game today, and ever."

•SOCCER - NBCSN

Analyst Kate Markgraf on the U.S women's team's 2-2 tie with Colombia: "This is a totally new team trying to play in a different style; different players were starting today that have never had an Olympic appearance. It's their first tournament and there's a lot of growth to happen here."

•RUGBY - CNBC

Analyst Brian Hightower on Team USA member and New England Patriots safety Nate Ebner, during the Americans' 26-0 win over Brazil: "I talked to his mother, Nancy, last week and she told me when Nate was 8 years old he walked into her bedroom and he started talking about being in the Olympics. And she realized he was sleepwalking and talking about being in the Olympics back during the Atlanta Games. His dream has come true."
