John Mellencamp 'Plain Spoken' tour tickets available Friday, Feb. 19

The Eastman School of Music is proud to welcome Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer John Mellencamp to Rochester. He will appear at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre for one night only at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 22.

Following the release of his acclaimed 22nd album, "Plain Spoken" (Republic Records, 2014), and an 80-stop North American tour last year, Mellencamp resumes his "Plain Spoken" tour this April, returning to major cities, including Rochester.

Mellencamp's "Plain Spoken" tour will once again feature special guest Carlene Carter. The daughter of country music royalty June Carter Cash and Carl Smith, Carlene Carter is a legendary Americana singer-songwriter in her own right. Her most recent release, "Carter Girl" (Rounder Records, 2014), was hailed for its innovative treatment of classic songs as "living, vital pieces of art that can withstand being taken apart, thought about and re-imagined" (NPR's "Fresh Air").

Throughout his multifaceted career, Mellencamp has performed thousands of shows in the U.S. and abroad. He displays a remarkable joy for performing and has been described as "still defiant" (New York Times) and "reminiscent of Johnny Cash" (Billboard).

"We are honored to host John Mellencamp at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre," said Keith C. Elder, director of concert activities at Eastman School of Music. "He is truly a remarkable artist, and this concert on April 22 is not to be missed."

The pre-sale for the performance will start on Wednesday, Feb. 17, for Mellencamp's VIP community (available through his website). Tickets will be made available to the public on at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, through the Eastman Theatre box office. The public can purchase tickets, which range between $27.50 and $113, in person at 433 E. Main St., in downtown Rochester, at www.EastmanTheatre.org, or by calling 585-454-2100. Tickets for Mellencamp's tour are expected to go quickly.
