In a long-term arrangement, the Buffalo Sabres have once again tapped local energy firm New Wave Energy to be "The Power Behind the Buffalo Sabres." The Sabres announced Thursday the team renewed its partnership with New Wave Energy Corp. as the official energy provider of the team. As part of the partnership, the Sabres' power play and the opposing team's penalty box will continue to garner the namesake of the energy firm headquartered in Buffalo.

"New Wave Energy represents the future of Western New York energy, and we are thrilled to continue our partnership with this innovative company," said Bruce Popko, Pegula Sports and Entertainment's executive vice president for business development. "Since coming online in 2009, New Wave's commitment to providing the most comprehensive and cost-efficient energy solutions has made it an ideal addition to our local community. We are proud to have New Wave as the official 'Power Behind the Buffalo Sabres.' "

In addition to sponsoring the Sabres' power play, both to the live audience at First Niagara Center and for the team's broadcast audience on MSG, the renewal of the partnership also will designate New Wave Energy as the energy supplier that will provide competitive electric rates to First Niagara Center.

"We cannot wait to electrify the sights and sounds of the arena for years to come," said James Schuster, director of operations for New Wave Energy. "With the arena's upgraded, state-of-the-art light and sound systems, we are proud to be the only energy company able to make claim to powering to it. Considering the arrival of new and unmatched talent to the team, and the highly anticipated future of our Buffalo Sabres, we are thrilled once again that the organization has chosen and relied on a local company to power its future."

New Wave Energy Corp., a Buffalo-based company, is an approved New York state electric and natural gas utility supplier. The locally owned, fast-growing company provides low-cost energy to more than 7,000 loyal electric and natural gas customers both commercially and residentially.
