For the fifth
year in a row, Niagara Falls Comic Con is set to invade the "Honeymoon Capital"
during the first weekend of June. It will once again feature a star-studded lineup,
cosplayers, memorabilia, movie screenings, workshops, comic books and more.
The event,
presented by Niagara College Canada, takes place June 5-7 at Scotiabank
Convention Centre, 6815
Stanley Ave, Niagara Falls, Ontario. Tickets
start at $25 and are available online at
www.nfcomiccon.com or at the door on the days of the show.
"Our main
goal each year is to listen to our fans and improve on the previous year," said
Chris Dabrowski, show manager for Niagara Falls Comic Con. "We've expanded again
and have booked out the whole Scotiabank Convention Centre, including a 1,000-seat
theater, which we will utilize for Q&A sessions, workshops and more."
In all,
Niagara Falls Comic Con will feature more than 200,000-square-feet of anything and
everything pop-culture and geek-related. New this year is an "'80s Arcade Zone"
that will include more than 30 retro coin-op standup arcade games. Movie cars
booked include the Bat Copter from the 1966 "Batman" TV Series, a replica of the
General Lee and "Knight Rider" KITT cars.
The event
will feature a cosplay contest that will take place throughout the weekend and
will give cosplayers an opportunity to compete in specific categories. For fans
of comic books, the event has expanded its featured artist offering, which now includes
more than 85 featured artists and independent publishers. Featured artists
include legendary writer Gerry Conway, award-winning artist Darwyn Cooke and David
& Meredith Finch, to name just a few.
Confirmed
celebrities include: David Hasselhoff ("Knight Rider"/"Baywatch"); Sean Astin ("The
Goonies"/"Lord of the Rings"); Ryan Hurst ("Sons of Anarchy"); Alfonso Ribeiro
("Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"/"Dancing with the Stars"); Billy Dee Williams ("Star
Wars"); Catherine Bach (TV's original Daisy Duke); Linda Blair ("The Exorcist");
Cassandra Peterson (aka Elvira); Nichelle Nichols ("Star Trek"); Manu Bennett ("Arrow"/"Spartacus"/"The
Hobbit"); Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano ("The Goonies" Fratelli Reunion), as well
as Scott Wilson ("The Walking Dead") and the Iron Sheik (WWF superstar).
The Falls
Horror Fest, an "event within an event," takes place inside the Comic Con and features
more than 5,000 square feet of horror exhibits, movie props, workshops, celebrities,
costumes, Q&As and more.
"Comic Con
is an event that provides people of all ages (and families) a fun and entertaining
weekend with lots to see and do in a very relaxed environment. Even if you don't
think you'll enjoy it, chances are you will. So give it a try. There is literally
something for everyone," Dabrowski said.
