Waterfowl permits to be available for Grand Island state parks

Permit distribution for the remaining waterfowl hunting season, which runs from March 1-10 at Beaver Island, West River Parkway and Motor and Strawberry islands, will be done by call in. Blinds and permits may be obtained by calling 716-773-2010 between 9 a.m. and noon on the following dates:

•Thursday, Feb. 27, for Saturday, March 1-Tuesday, March 4

•Tuesday, March 4, for Wednesday, March 5-Friday, March 7

•Thursday, March 6, for Saturday, March 8-Monday, March 10

A boat is required to be on site, "at the ready," for use in retrieving or rescue, as necessary. To participate in the hunt, hunters must present a valid state small game hunting license with a signed duck stamp, proof of registration in the harvest information program, and proof of completion of a waterfowl identification course.
