The Grand Island Town Board issued a proclamation at its Monday meeting naming the month of November 2013 American Legion Membership Month.
The board "urges all eligible veterans and service members to join the Grand Island Post No. 1346 American Legion, especially during this month-long membership drive."
In making the proclamation, the board noted the American Legion "encourages Americanism and scholarship programs," and that the Grand Island Post No. 1346 was chartered on April 29, 1947, and reactivated Aug. 23, 2001.

"I want to thank Mary and the Town Board for this proclamation," Wornick said. "Out of 40 American Legion posts, at Grand Island we were No. 1. We received three awards for renewals and recruiting. We hope we can beat that and be No. 1 again this year."
