Both the Village of Lewiston Planning Board and Board of Trustees have given approval to the DiMino family to expand the Colonial Valley Plaza on Center and South Eighth streets. An 11,056-square-foot addition will be built on the CVS lot's west side, and will house between one and three tenants. Construction will be weather-permitting, commencing no later than spring 2014.

The buildings west of CVS will receive new siding. The addition's design will mirror the existing structure, and will share a roofline with the current units. A screened Dumpster, vinyl fence and landscaping will be added to the back of the building, facing Cayuga Street.

An island of shrubbery, a new stop sign and additional "traffic-calming" lines will be installed east of ChrisFit to create a safer travel path between this plaza and the Rite-Aid plaza. Additional trees and shrubbery will dot the remainder of the development.

Though no new parking spaces were required, the design calls for a handful of new spots on the west side.

Colonial Valley Plaza also houses Fantasy Village Hair Salon and Family Dollar. Its middle tenant, The UPS Store, is moving into the former Nico Floor Covering store. These businesses, plus CVS, measure 34,605 square feet. The plaza itself is 3.272 acres. (photo by Joshua Maloni)
