Petitions for candidates interested in running for the two open seats on the Niagara-Wheatfield Board of Education are due by 5 p.m. Monday, April 22, in the school district's Business Office.

The seats currently held by Kathy Fleming and Lori Pittman will be on the ballot this year.

According to Robin Vertino, district clerk, only one completed application had been received at the district's administration building by Tuesday. That petition came from Pittman.

Fleming has been on the board since 2007. Pittman, a former board member, was appointed to temporarily fill the seat of Michael Brock when he resigned. The two candidates with the most votes will each receive three-year-terms ending June 30, 2016. The candidate filling the unexpired term will be installed immediately after the election. The second candidate will take office on July 1.

Petitions for board candidates are available in the district's Business Office at 6700 Schultz St., Wheatfield. Petitions must have at least 76 signatures. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, able to read and write, at least 18 years old, and have been a district resident for at least one continuous year.

The school district's annual budget vote and school board election will be held from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, in the Adult Learning Center of the Niagara-Wheatfield Senior High School, 2292 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn.
