Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue hosts a volunteer/foster meeting on Tuesday, April 16, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Lewiston Public Library, 305 S. Eighth St., in the community room. Heart of Niagara's directors, along with Dr. Kristen Ruest from the Village Vet of Lewiston, will be in attendance to answer questions about fostering, animal care and other volunteer opportunities.

Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue is a newly organized, not-for-profit companion animal rescue organization based in Niagara County. Its mission is to protect the health and welfare of abandoned, unwanted and homeless animals, with a goal to provide these rescued animals with shelter, food and medical care until a loving adoptive family can be found.

Heart of Niagara will begin dog rescues very soon, and invites area residents to join its team of foster families willing to temporarily share a home with an animal in need. Every additional foster home means an additional animal saved.

The rescue is now in need of donated items, including Purina puppy chow and dog chow, large and medium kennels/crates, and blankets. Those interested in donating or able to foster an animal should call 716-345-7129.
