Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, voted Wednesday in favor of legislation extending New York's moratorium on horizontal hydraulic fracturing, known as hydrofracking, until May 15, 2015.
"My No. 1 concern regarding this issue is that of the health and well-being of the communities I represent. The Love Canal, which is in my district, is proof of what can occur if proper precautions are not taken to ensure the health and safety of residents," Ceretto said. "The moratorium will give the state the time it needs to finish ongoing health and environmental impact studies, while allowing for additional tests to be done by independent groups to ensure that, if and when horizontal hydrofracking comes to New York, it is done in the safest possible manner."
