12-week Family-to-Family Education Program to kick off

Josh's Journey: A Foundation of Hope, is teaming with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, to sponsor the NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program, specifically for families of persons diagnosed with serious mental illness. The 12-week series of classes begins Monday, April 8, with sessions from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Generation Church, 1001 E. Robinson St., North Tonawanda.

The course will cover information about schizophrenia; mood disorders (bipolar disorder and major depression); panic disorder; borderline disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder; coping skills such as handling crisis and relapse; basic information about medications; listening and communication techniques; problem-solving techniques; recovery and rehabilitation; and self-care around worry and stress.

The free course is designed specifically for parents, siblings, spouses, adult children and significant others of persons with severe and persistent mental illness. The course is not appropriate for individuals who themselves have one of the mental illnesses.
