Honoree chooses chapter to receive bank donation

A donation made in the name of one of the 25 "Women of Influence" named by Business First in September will help the Western New York Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association continue to provide vital programs and services across eight counties.

Lake Shore Savings Bank Vice President Nancy LaTulip recently presented a check for $1,000 to AA Executive Director Leilani Pelletier in the name of Joanne Pearl-Barbati of JM Management Services Inc. Pearl-Barbati is a former chairwoman of the association's board of directors. She chose the charity as a beneficiary of the bank's initiative to extend the scale of its support for not for profit organizations throughout the Western New York region.

The "Women of Influence" awards recognize the business acumen and community spirit of the honorees. Pearl-Barbati was honored for the inspiration she provides through her words, actions and attitude.

More than 5.4 million Americas are living with Alzheimer's disease, including 55,000 in the Western New York region, and more than 15 million family members and friends provide some kind of care for those individuals. It's estimated these caregivers provide $210 billion worth of unpaid care, while dementia-related costs covered by Medicare and Medicaid top $140 billion. Read the report at: www.alz.org.
