Lew-Port JV hockey Lancers off to 2-0 start

Defending Western New York High School Club Hockey League Champion Lew-Port JV is off to a 2-0 start following victories last weekend over Starpoint and Depew.

On Sunday, Nov. 18, at Niagara University's Dwyer Ice Arena, Lew-Port topped Starpoint by a 5-3 score.

The top line of Scott Meogrossi, Chris Harvey and Kurt Magers played a strong game for the Lancers JV, both offensively and defensively.

By the numbers, Lew-Port scorers included Meogrossi with two goals and one assist; Magers and Harvey, both with one goal and two assists; Simon Brydges with one goal; and Austin Gifford with one assist.

Scoring for Starpoint was Jeff Waurynek with two goals, and Josh Kraczyk with one goal.

Callum Knight continued his strong play in goal.

In the Saturday, Nov. 17, contest at the Hyde Park Ice Pavilion in Niagara Falls, Lew-Port JV opened the season with an impressive 6-3 win over Depew.

Evan Korpolinski, in his first JV game, recorded a hat trick, including two power play goals (one unassisted). Chris Harvey chipped in with two goals. And Simon Brydges, also in his first JV game, scored on a breakaway with two defenders draped over him. He scored as he was being tripped.

Lew-Port scorers included Korpolinski with the hat trick; Harvey with two goals; Brydges, one goal; and assists by Emmett Mahar, Keegan Miller, Nick Koroschetz, Meogrossi and Magers.

Scoring for Depew was Austin Pilley, Nick Grupp and Tyler Post, each with one goal.

Knight stopped 16 shots for the JV Lancers.
