Get your megaphones ready as Cheer For the Cure, a U.S. Cheerleading final qualifying competition to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, springs into the Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls, Saturday, Feb. 25, through Sunday, Feb. 26.
The annual event begins at 10 a.m. each day, and is open to spectators with a $5 entry fee.
JDRF's Cheer For the Cure is one of Western New York's more lively charity events. Approximately 135 cheerleading and dance teams from Western New York, Pennsylvania and Southern Ontario participate each year. The competition drew more than 3,000 spectators in 2011 and raised more than $32,000 for diabetes research, making last year's event the most profitable to date.
Saturday's competition will feature dance and all-star teams. Sunday's competition will feature school and recreation, "Little Loop," college and special needs teams. Awards will be given based upon number of teams in each division. There will be first, second and third place trophies in each division. One team will be awarded overall grand champion each day.
