Unseasonably warm temperatures and wet grounds forced Ransomville Speedway officials on Dec. 31 to postpone the 12th annual Hangover 150 for the second consecutive year. Now rescheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28, Big R gates will open today at 8:30 a.m. in the pit area and 10 a.m. in the grandstands with racing slated for noon.

A total of 93 entries have signed up.

"It's impossible to get on the race track to do any prep," commented co-promoter Jamie Friesen last month. "We want to present as best a racing surface as possible for the drivers and the fans, which is just not happening with weather such as this."

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. That was the thinking on Dec. 31 at the Ransomville Speedway office. In perfect conditions, speedway staff and management would have been preparing for the 12th annual Hangover 150. However, Mother Nature had different ideas as she flooded the area with moisture that Saturday, making the grounds impossible to work with. What did track management due? Utilize the opportunity since all key personnel were in place and hold a 2012 planning meeting.

•First order of business - track tire. The Mighty Taco Modifieds and Original Pizza Logs Sportsman will continue on the Hoosier tire for the 2012 season. "At this year's banquet, we were able to award 15 drivers in the open wheeled divisions additional tire money thanks to Hoosier Tire," commented Friesen. "This was above and beyond our already strong point fund. Just as American Racer is to our Streetstock ranks, Hoosier Tire is an asset to our Sportsman and Modified teams."

A tentative schedule has begun to take shape, which will include a total of 22 events.

Looking ahead, dates to keep in mind are: Feb. 12 - the annual membership meeting at the Lewiston No. 2 Volunteer Fire Co. fire hall, 1705 Saunders Settlement Road in Lewiston; and Friday, April 27 - the annual test, tune, and time with the season opener slated for Friday, May 4. Go-karts will kick off Thursday, May 10.

•The Battle at the Border and Alex Friesen Summer Nationals will headline the season along with a visit by the Patriot Sprints. Exact dates for these events will be released in the coming weeks.

•Pepsi Cola will continue as the official soft drink of Ransomville Speedway through the 2013 season. Pepsi has been with us for as long as I can remember. This relationship will continue through this season and beyond.

Many thanks to Joe Kasbaum and everyone at Pepsi-Cola Buffalo for their continued support. Pepsi Cola products are offered at both the main concourse concession area in the main grandstands and pit areas.

•The United Way has utilized Ransomville Speedway to host the Labor Night at the Races event held in early to mid-June for the past few years. The event raises money for the United Way, which benefits families locally.

We are excited and proud to once again host this event for such a worthy cause. The support by fans and drivers has been over whelming and we look for this to continue in 2012. Additional details will follow.
