The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 168 made a $1,680 donation to the Miracle League of Grand Island and Western New York last week.
Last Friday, representatives of the local DAV presented a check to Miracle League treasurer Kim McMahon at Sabres Miracle League Field in Veterans Park. The local Miracle League organization is raising money for its adaptive ball diamond to provide an opportunity for disabled children and young adults to play baseball. The rubberized playing surface is in place and games have been played, but much more needs to be done, McMahon said.
"We're still not anywhere close to being finished," she said, noting that a handicapped accessible playground adjoining the diamond is still in the works.

The money received by the Miracle League from the DAV comes in part from donations made to the DAV's Forget Me Not drive, Synakowski said. The DAV 168 has 130 area members. (photo by Larry Austin)
