The Wheatfield MUNY AA baseball team won three games last week to improve to 9-7 on the season.

At McCarthy Park, Evan Kraft struck out five batters in five innings of work as Wheatfield beat Collision Pro 9-4. Ryan Belton had two hits as the locals grinded out an ugly win.

On Sunday, Collision Pro visited Fairmount Park for the return game as Wheatfield won a close contest 5-3. Ryan Layden and Mike Brosius split the pitching duties as the locals again had to grind out a close game.

Joe Brooks had three hits and Todd Brosius had two as Wheatfield hopped out to an early 2-0 lead.  Collision Pro battled back and ultimately tied the game in the sixth inning with a solo home run. In the bottom half of the inning, Mike Ranalli reached on an error, stole second base, was sacrificed to third, and scored on Todd Brosius' sacrifice fly to give Wheatfield the lead for good.

On Monday night at Fairmount Park, Wheatfield beat Akron, 7-1, as the bats finally came alive for the home team. Rick Hagerty turned in a spectacular pitching performance allowing one hit and striking out five in five innings of shutout ball. Hagerty supported his own cause at the plate as well with two hits and three RBI.

With last week's victories, Wheatfield moved into fifth place in the Buffalo MUNY AA Baseball League with three weeks remaining in the season. The top six teams make the playoffs.

Wheatfield's next home game is Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. against Amherst.  The team is sponsored locally by Greater Niagara Mechanical and NFP & Sons Trucking/Excavation.
