Anchor Marine on Grand Island is holding its second annual Greater Niagara AYA Tournament on Saturday, July 17.
Organizers of the event are looking for 50 teams, which consist of one adult and one or two kids (17 years of age or younger). The cost is $150 for the adult and kids are free. The top prize for the winner is a brand new Lund fishing boat, motor and trailer and a chance to compete in the national contest in Kenora, Ontario, for a free trip for four people to Disney World or Miminiska Lodge. There are also many other prizes and trophies too. A barbecue and awards ceremony caps off the day. Participants must enter by July 10, and any questions can be directed to Chris Weaver. The Angler & Young Angler program began in 1998 when tournament founder Andrew Klopak decided he wanted to fish in a competitive tournament on opening day with his son. Seeing that there were no tournaments that catered to adult and young anglers, he created his own.
