Construction begins on gas collection and control system

Niagara Falls Landfill Press Release

Niagara Falls Landfill is investing more than $400,000 in its gas collection and control system this spring as part of its annual odor management program. Work began today.

The project will add nine vertical gas collection wells and more than 1,350 feet of horizontal gas collection piping at the landfill.

This is the first of several infrastructure additions scheduled for 2024. Niagara Falls plans to invest another $1.2 million later this year on additional horizontal gas collectors and the capping of closed waste cells.

Niagara Falls Landfill takes great pride in being a responsible operator and a good community partner, and is committed to working with our regulatory partners at the local, state and federal level.

Construction work will be concentrated on the north-central area of the landfill site, and will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, and from 6 a.m. to noon on Saturday. While construction trucks will be visible during this time, Niagara Falls does not anticipate any increase in noise, beyond that of normal operations. Work is expected to be complete by the end of April.

Located between Buffalo and Niagara Falls, Niagara Falls Landfill serves businesses and communities throughout Western New York. The landfill provides safe and environmentally responsible waste disposal services that support area growth and development.
