River Region residents have noticed more activity at the new WellNow Urgent Care site on Center Street in Lewiston. Furniture and television screens can be seen inside the windows, and the company sign was recently installed on the building’s exterior.

“We are finished with the buildout at this location, so still on track to open during the first half of the year,” Public Relations Manager Annie Keller said on Monday. “An opening date has not been confirmed yet, but we are actively hiring at this site. Anyone interested can visit https://www.wellnow.com/about/careers/ to view opportunities and apply.”

Keller previously told NFP, “We’re very excited to be bringing convenient care to the Lewiston community. We recognized that there was a need and opportunity to provide local residents with greater access to quality care with shorter wait times, walk-in service and lower costs than the traditional emergency room. As most people have experienced at some point, injuries and illnesses tend to happen at the most inconvenient times, including evenings and weekends. WellNow Urgent Care is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with extended hours available at some locations. We also offer virtual care 24/7, so patients can receive the care they need anytime.

“Our goal is to make it easier for patients to get the treatment they need quickly, close to where they live and work, and get back to their lives instead of waiting for hours in an emergency room or delaying care.

“The WellNow Urgent Care in Lewiston will provide timely walk-in treatment for a wide range of non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses such as sprains, burns, cuts, lacerations, colds and flu, strep throat, sinus infections, allergies and more. We also provide on-site X-rays and physicals. COVID-19 PCR testing with next-day results is available at all WellNow locations. Most insurance is accepted, and we offer competitive self-pay rates for patients without insurance.”

WellNow Urgent Care Chief Medical Officer Dr. Robert Biernbaum said, “WellNow Urgent Care was founded in Western New York to help communities bridge the widening gap between urgent care needs and the shrinking emergency room capacity across New York, especially in the rural and urban underserved communities. Rural hospital closures hit communities hard, and WellNow has expanded to more than 70 care centers throughout upstate New York, which employ more than 2,500 people.

“Studies show urgent care centers such as WellNow are likely saving hospital emergency departments millions by offering people alternatives for lesser illnesses and injuries according to the National Institutes of Health. Urgent care goes far beyond primary care with more advanced procedures like treating lacerations, fractures, and conducting X-rays to provide rural communities with a continuum of care.”
