Lewiston Council on the Arts has 'Conversations with...'

The Lewiston Council on the Arts is kicking off new series “Conversations with…” at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in the Red Brick Municipal Building, 145 N. Fourth St. 

Organizers said, “The series explores the world of the arts and celebrates artists and their work. Each presentation will be approximately an hour long followed by a Q&A session.”

Lewiston Council on the Arts Executive Director Maria Fortuna Dean said, “We’ve assembled a wonderful variety of speakers and experiences, from a poetry open mic to a rom-com afternoon tea, and from crime writing and gothic horror to the mysteries of the human voice. One of our LCA members saw Annaliese perform and told us that we just had to have her here in Lewiston. We’re so excited to have her as our inaugural speaker.”

Public historian and dressmaker Annaliese Meck will start the series off with “Getting Dressed in the 1860’s.”

The LCA noted, “Anneliese interprets history through the clothing of the time and explores what it took to be fashionable. From corsets to cage crinolines, petticoats and parasols, Anneliese discusses the many layers that ladies were wearing in the mid-19th century while actually getting dressed in an accurate historical reproduction of an 1860s ensemble, complete with the proper undergarments, day dress, and accessories.”

Tickets are $10 cash or check at the door for the general public, and $8 for LCA members.
