Obituary: Thomas E. Nogle

Thomas E. Nogle, of Grand Island, passed away with his loving family at his side on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, at the Medina Memorial Hospital – North Wing Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born Oct. 31, 1941, in North Tonawanda, he was a son of the late James A. and Mildred E. (Waterman) Nogle.

He graduated from Tonawanda High School in 1959. Nogle went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from 1959-62. Stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, he served aboard the USS Enterprise.

On Sept. 19, 1964, he married the former Carol Erb. Nogle worked for General Motors at the Tonawanda Forge as a tool and die maker for 30 years, retiring in 1998.

He was a charter member of the Grand Island Moose Lodge No. 180, where he served as treasurer for many years. Nogle was also a member of the American Coaster Enthusiasts, through which he took his family on many adventurous vacations. He was also an avid auto racing fan, both locally and NASCAR. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the U.S.

In addition to his parents, Nogle was predeceased by an infant son, David, in 1969; by his wife, Carol Nogle, in 2017; and by a brother, James Nogle, in 1991.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Cherie (Ron) Stork of Medina; son, James (Kathy) Nogle of Lockport; three grandsons: Tyler, Connor and Kai Nogle; three brothers: C. Daniel Nogle (Jeanne Crane), Richard (Cindy) Nogle and John (Linda) Nogle; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Grand Island Moose Lodge No. 180, 2524 Grand Island Blvd.

Private interment with military honors will be held in Elmlawn Memorial Park, Kenmore. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grand Island Moose Lodge at the address above.

The family wishes to extend its sincere appreciation to the staff at the North Wing SNF in Medina for the compassionate care given to Tom and his family throughout his final months.
