Submitted by the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced that a self-proclaimed member of the “Kia Boys” has been sentenced to spend the next three to nine years in State Prison.

Michael A. Arcay of Buffalo was handed down the sentence by County Court Judge Caroline Wojtaszek after he plead guilty to one count of grand larceny in the third degree and two counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree. Arcay had been charged with stealing or possessing 10 stolen Kia or Hyundai vehicles in Niagara Falls in February and March of this year. In one incident, Arcay led police on a high-speed chase while driving a stolen vehicle.

Seaman stated: “Theft of Kia and Hyundai vehicles, fueled largely by social media, has been a huge issue for law enforcement nationwide. Stealing someone else’s car is a serious crime. Leading police on a high-speed chase puts lives at risk. The end of these crimes isn’t internet fame, it’s prison.”

Arcay’s cases were investigated by the Niagara Falls Police Department and the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Mattie E.L. Davis.
