The Niagara History Center has received a grant of $650 from the Greater Hudson Heritage Network’s Conservation Grant Program for Preservation Supplies. This grant will allow the History Center to purchase archival supplies to help preserve its artifact collection.

The grant is administered by Greater Hudson Heritage Network (GHHN) in partnership with the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). It allows for the purchase of supplies for artifacts within the collection.

A press release noted, “The History Center receives over 100 donations a year. Most of the items are archival materials such as photographs, letters, and other miscellaneous documents and ephemera. Other items include clothing and other textiles, tourist souvenirs, and industrial and agricultural tools, parts and equipment.”

History Center curator Terry Abrams said, “Preservation supplies such as acid-free boxes are expensive, but necessary for the long-term preservation of our collection. This grant will allow us to care for these objects in accordance with national and international guidelines.”

The NYSCA/GHHN Conservation Grant Program is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
