Octapharma Plasma Inc., a plasma collection company “for the development of life-saving pharmaceutical therapies,” opened its latest donation center in Amherst, at Sheridan Center shopping mall (3386 Sheridan Drive). With its opening, Octapharma Plasma now operates donation centers in 36 states.

The company stated, “Plasma is the liquid part of blood carrying antibodies, clotting factors and proteins through the body. There several medical uses for plasma, including aiding with cancers, hemophilia, autoimmune diseases, burns among others. Octapharma products are available in 118 countries and reach hundreds of thousands of patients annually. Compensating donors for their time is not only an important incentive to encourage new and recurring donors to continue to give, but it also illustrates how valuable their time truly is.”

“We’re looking forward to bringing our level of service to New York, and Greater Buffalo is great place to start as we hope to grow our presence with additional future centers in the years to come,” said Alice Stewart, COO of Octapharma Plasma. “Our donors aid thousands of patients who rely on plasma therapies for their health, and they play an active role in the solution to the current plasma shortage.”

Each Octapharma Plasma donation center is “focused on impacting the community it serves. The Amherst center will bring approximately 50 new jobs to the area. The center will be partnering with local businesses and community organizations to educate others about the importance of plasma donations.
