Buffalo Museum of Science, Churn Soft Serve & Coffee partner to host live ice carving of larger-than-life-size cryolophosaurus dinosaur

In honor of partnership, Churn announced limited-edition ‘Tri-Churo-Tops Sundae’ in recognition of frozen dinosaur

On Saturday, the Buffalo Museum of Science held a live ice sculpting of a larger-than-life cryolophosaurus head at Churn Soft Serve & Coffee. The collaboration came as a recognition of the “Antarctic Dinosaurs: The Exhibition” experience nearing its final days at the museum.

As part of the event, Churn unveiled a limited-edition “Tri-Churro-Tops Sundae” that was available for the day. Guests who purchased the sundae received a $5 discount to the “Antarctic Dinosaurs” exhibit.

“We wanted to create something unexpected and truly one of a kind to create a fun play on the final weeks of our cool exhibit during the summer heat. Produced by The Ice Farm, the 8-foot-tall bust of the cryolophosaurus began as eight 20-inch-by-40inch ice blocks and took two hours to complete. Attending guests and families enjoyed the new flavor and looked on as the sculpture took shape, and children made paper masks of the cryolophosaurus.

"This partnership was intriguing simply for the fact that we get to have a giant dinosaur head made out of ice on our patio," said Pat Fisher, marketing manager for Lloyd & Churn Soft Serve. "Ramali, the churn supervisor, created an awesome ‘Tri-Churro-Tops Sundae’ featuring vanilla ice cream, strawberry-raspberry jam, chocolate dip and a brownie.”

“Antarctic Dinosaurs: The Exhibition,” presented by M&T Bank, is on tour from the Field Museum in Chicago. Its Buffalo engagement opened in February and showcases a lost world informed by scientists’ expeditions across the frozen continent. Visitors can see and touch real fossils from Antarctica, along with full-sized replicas showing how the dinosaurs and their habitat would have looked in life. Additionally, artifacts from both historical and modern expeditions are included so that guests can build an understanding of what goes into living and working in the coldest area on earth. Children can also enjoy interactive, hands-on displays within the exhibit to further their learnings.

The exhibit’s last day open will be on Sunday, Sept. 4. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased online or at the admissions desk. The cost for admission is $24 for adults and non-museum members. Admission for children, students and members of the military is $21. Active museum members receive a special discounted admission rate of $6 per person. Advanced purchase is encouraged for the final weekends due to limited capacity.
