Funds will help expand CEPA’s work with individuals on autism spectrum

The Center for Exploratory & Perceptual Arts has received $17,114 from the Peter & Elizabeth Tower Foundation. These funds will be dedicated to enhancing and expanding upon Alternative Perspectives, CEPA’s program for individuals on the autism spectrum. Through photography workshops and hands-on training for individuals on the spectrum, CEPA will serve more than 40 individuals on the spectrum.

CEPA’s community partners for Alternative Perspectives include Autism Services Inc., People Inc., Starlight Studios, and the Summit Center. Former CEPA student and current Flutie Fellow Joseph Poloncarz will be one of the artist instructors for these workshops. This training will provide students with the opportunity to envision, create and publicly exhibit their work in a professional setting.

“CEPA’s services for neurodivergent and differently abled people are crucial to our commitment to art as an essential facet of life and community,” said Véronique Côté, CEPA’s executive director and chief curator. “As someone on the autism spectrum, I know the importance of creating pathways to explore alternative perspectives in the art world and welcoming new voices into the culture-building dialogue.”

Since its inception in 1974, CEPA’s nationally acclaimed arts education programming has helped develop new artists and build passion for photography as a medium of expression.

CEPA’s next event is its 16th charitable auction on June 24. This is the most important source of unrestricted funds for the organization. Community members can bid now on a piece by a former Alternative Perspectives student (Lot 46), or any other work to help support programs.
