Second Annual Mike Bonesky Memorial Set for Aug. 24 at ‘Big R’

The second annual Mike Bonesky Memorial for the Sportsman division will once again be a Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series event. The race will take place Wednesday, Aug. 24, coinciding with the 37th annual Summer Nationals for the Big-Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series. The race is in honor and memory of avid fan and former racing columnist Bonesky.

“We are thrilled to once again continue the tradition of having a Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series event at the Big R,” Ransomville Speedway management stated.

A rain date of Aug. 25 has been scheduled, if needed for this event.

Bonesky lived and breathed racing. He raced in the Bomber division at Ransomville Speedway in the early 1980s. After being behind the wheel, Bonesky had a pen, paper, and eventual computer with him as he was a columnist and writer in both the Gater Racing News and Area Auto Racing News. He also spent time handling the public relations duties for the indoor TQ Midget races at the Niagara Falls Convention Center, as well as Holland International Speedway. Most recently, Bonesky was a member of Ryan Susice’s pit crew and spent time helping his grandson, Jackson, with go-kart efforts for Thursday nights at “The Little R.”

Bonesky was an avid racing fan in general, as he had traveled to over 100 different tracks throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. A graduate of Niagara Wheatfield High School who served in the U.S. Army, Bonesky passed away unexpectedly in December of 2020

Last season, Scott Kerwin of Newfane battled Ransomville’s Austin Susice for much of the feature distance. Kerwin would score the win with a last-lap pass. Brett Senek, Brett Martin, Susice and Zach Sobotka completed the top five.

Season passes for the 2022 racing season are now on sale. To purchase season passes, contact Ransomville Speedway by email at [email protected], or call 716-791-3602. Follow Ransomville Speedway on social media for all updates, as well as the speedway website: www.ransomvillespeedway.com.

Ransomville Speedway is located on Braley Road in the hamlet of Ransomville. “The Big R” is a 3/8th-mile DIRTcar-sanctioned facility that is the “Home of the Summer Nationals.” Ransomville also features a 1/16th-mile go-kart track for action on the “Little R” on Thursday nights.
