Woman-owned, small business focused on providing modest clothing and accessories for all women

Modesty Marketplace, a proudly woman-owned clothing and retail store located at 4498 Main St., Amherst, will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, July 17. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., all customers will receive 25%-off any purchase and receive a free gift with purchase when visiting the store.

Owned and operated by Julie Algubani, Modesty Marketplace recognizes the difficulty in locating and purchasing modest clothing and accessories in local big box retail stores. Through her new storefront in Amherst, Algubani is focused on providing modest clothing and accessories for all women, no matter their faith, race or age.

“Modesty Marketplace helps women who are modest feel confident, comfortable and empowered in their clothing,” she said. “My vision was to help curate clothing that is easy to wear without layering, made from quality fabrics, and on trend with the latest fashions.”

Algubani is a native of WNY and has a diverse background serving on many local boards, progressive organizations and as a small business owner. Much of her volunteer work has surrounded helping members of underrepresented communities. Algubani, who is a survivor of domestic violence, has elected to donate 5% of her store’s earnings every quarter to Rahama, a 501(c)(3) organization that provides counseling, case management and other supportive services to survivors of domestic violence.

“I decided to give back because so many times organizations like RAHAMA are strapped for resources and the work that they do in the community is essential. Any way I can support the work to ensure it continues I want to be able to do that,” Algubani said.
