Not many of us remember the “golden age of radio” (1930s to 1940s), but Don Lange, 37-year veteran of Buffalo radio does. Don began his radio career at the original WEBR radio in 1941, and was later promoted to chief engineer. He retired in 1978 … and oh, the stories he can tell about old-time radio! Shortly after retiring, Don began the huge task of rebuilding the Wurlitzer organ at the Riviera Theater in North Tonawanda.

On Monday, July 20, Don will celebrate his 99th birthday live, on air, at 12:15 p.m. on WEBR 1440, the rebirth of the iconic radio station. Don, along with several former radio personalities, will celebrate, share great stories, and reminisce about the early days of radio when the medium helped lift listeners’ spirits after the economic depression and World War II.
