Adam and Johnny fight for top spot of the ‘Highlander Club,’ while Barry hopes JTP keep together after high school, on an all-new episode

Despite Beverly wanting the two boys to bond, Adam and Johnny Atkins compete for the head of the “Highlander Club” at school. Meanwhile, Barry tries to keep him and JTP from the same fate of Murray falling out of touch with his high school friends on an all-new episode of “The Goldbergs,” airing Wednesday, Feb. 20 (8 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand.

“The Goldbergs” stars Wendi McLendon-Covey as Beverly Goldberg, Patton Oswalt as adult Adam Goldberg, Sean Giambrone as Adam Goldberg, Troy Gentile as Barry Goldberg, Hayley Orrantia as Erica Goldberg, Sam Lerner as Geoff Schwartz, with George Segal as Pops Solomon and Jeff Garlin as Murray Goldberg.

Guest starring is “Highlander” star Clancy Brown as Mr. Crosby, Matt Bush as Andy Cogan, Noah Munck as Naked Rob, Shayne Topp as Matt Bradley, Kenny Ridwan as Dave Kim, Sean Marquette as Johnny Atkins, Alex Jennings as Carla, Zayne Emory as JC Spink, Joshua Carlon as Mike C. Levy, Zach Callison as Corbett, Nate Hartley as Dan, Niko Guardado as Ruben Amaro Jr., Sam Kindseth as Dave Sirota, Pat Finn as Kormy, Kirk Fox as Tall Jake and Chip Chinery as Dancing Bruce.

Adam F. Goldberg, executive producer and creator of “The Goldbergs,” is living out a lifelong dream of writing an homage to the “Highlander” movie, and producing the only sitcom episode that’s ever been made about the movie.

Goldberg said, “In high school, I was so obsessed with the movie that I started an actual ‘Highlander’ club with my two best friends, Mike Levy and David Sirota. What began as a few geeks hitting each other with swords we made in wood shop soon became a schoolwide game with 20 people playing. It became so disruptive that the administration had to shut it down.

“My ‘Highlander’ obsession never died and it’s why I ended up casting Clancy Brown as Mr. Crosby, the shop teacher, two years ago. I’ve been a longtime fan of his talent and ‘The Goldbergs’ marks his first network comedy. It was perfectly fitting to put Clancy Brown – The Kurgan – in our ‘Highlander’ episode, which I’ve been waiting to tell ever since the show began. “

“We not only perfectly replicated the costumes and sword choreography, we got Queen’s approval to use their song from the soundtrack,” Goldberg added. “It’s one of my favorite episodes we’ve ever made, and I can safely say the only ‘Highlander’ sitcom episode that’s been made!”

Goldberg often creates “totally surreal” highlights featuring lifelong friends, heroes, idols and other well-known celebrities from his personal life of growing up in a suburban Philadelphia neighborhood in the 1980s into his show. Look for Levy and Sirota to make an appearance at the conclusion of this episode.

“Highlander” is a 1986 British-American fantasy action-adventure film chronicling the climax of an ages-old battle among immortal warriors, depicted through interwoven past and present-day storylines.
