Last week, the St. Bonaventure mens lacrosse team named its six captains. One of the six is freshman and Niagara-Wheatfield High School alumnus Zack Belter.
Belter was one of four freshmen named as captains – Brett Dobson, Matthew DeGirolamo and Ben Mazur – along with junior Nik Clinton and sophomore Daire Newbrough.
According to a release on the St. Bonaventure mens lacrosse website, head coach Randy Mearns said, "It's no secret that leadership is essential to build a strong and dedicated culture that leads to success. I believe our 2019 leadership group possess the positive, competitive and team-first characteristics needed to establish and build our culture. Each has the respect of their teammates and coaches as well as a true understanding of what it means to be a Bonnie."
Belter is a long stick midfielder and defenseman for the Bonnies. As a Falcon, Belter managed a school record 162 groundballs, which was tops for Class B. Additionally, Belter was a U.S. Lacrosse All-America recipient, First Team All-Class B, First Team All-Section VI and First Team All-Western New York.
The Bonnies open their season at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at High Point University.
