Mount St. Mary’s Hospital will hold a special ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, as part of its Black History Month celebration. The event will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the hospital cafeteria, 5300 Military Road.

Each year, a committee of hospital associates select their fellow associates who will be recognized for embodying the values of Black History Month and service. This year’s honorees include Shirley Evans, nurse attendant; Blasina Mathews, diagnostic imaging attendant; and Shaneka Hilson, director, fifth-floor medical-surgical unit.

As part of the ceremony, the Rev. John C. Caldwell, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Niagara Falls will serve as guest speaker. Mount St. Mary’s  Hospital President and CEO Gary C. Tucker will also participate, while other hospital associates will be part of the program.

Following the ceremony, the nutrition services department will serve a special “soul food” luncheon featuring a variety of foods from recipes of the Black History Month committee.

A portion of the proceeds from the lunch and dinner will be given to the hospital’s mission committee, which assists associates in need.
