Bollywood celebrated at the NACC

At 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, an evening of Indian art, music, dance, food and culture, with an international cast of performers and musicians, will be staged at the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center. The event is a tribute to Indian culture, Bollywood dance and music. The program will feature musicians and dancers transcending borders.
Danielle Di Stefano, classically trained soprano, will sing timeless, iconic hits from the legendary and beloved Bollywood singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. Additional performances will also grace the NACC stage by local favorites Nandhini & Ramesh and Preeti Pratap. Bollywood dance performances will be offered by groups of dancers and veteran performers from Indian Association of Buffalo and the Hindu Cultural Society of Western New York, coordinated by Uma Krishnan.
A dessert reception will follow the performance in the Garden Gallery and feature  "Indian Art" painting exhibit by Krishnan and "India: Music, Craft and Culture" by Dr. Harpal Sodhi.
Tickets may be purchased online at www.thenacc.org, or at the door. Proceeds will go to the renovation and restoration of the NACC's Grand Theater.
The Niagara Falls venue is located at 1201 Pine Ave.
•The "Native Voices" art exhibit and Iroquoian language gathering is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov 13, in the NACC's Townsend Galley. Cayuga language instructor Allan Jamieson will welcome guests, who can spend the evening leaning about Iroquoian languages and joining the discussion on the importance of language to preserve cultural heritage. Participants also can sign up for Cayuga language classes, and practice conversational skills.
