The Niagara-Wheatfield girls volleyball team continued its impressive string of victories this past week, improving its record to 14-0 in the Niagara Frontier League.
With two league matches remaining, the girls are sitting pretty on top of the NFL, and with just one more win, the team could clinch its second straight league title. It would also be the first time in program history the team has gone back-to-back years as champions.
Recently, the team defeated Grand Island and Lewiston-Porter, 3-0. In the win over Grand Island last Wednesday, Kelsey Tylec had seven kills and eight digs, while Danielle Brochey had 10 kills and 14 digs. The girls also won the three sets, 25-16, 25-14 and 25-18.
In all 14 league matches, the Falcons have yet to lose a set and are 42-0 in sets during the league season.
The girls have two more league matches versus Kenmore East and Niagara Falls, which coach Brandi Cochran said she'd like the team to win to have more momentum heading into playoffs. The Bulldogs gave N-W one of its toughest fights in the third set of the last matchup. Neverthless, the Falcons took the third set for a clean sweep, 26-24.
