It's hard to believe the Niagara-Wheatfield athletics season is already through one month. The teams have reached homecoming week, which includes themed days, the always competitive pindodge game, powder puff football and, of course, the Friday night lights football game. With that, here's how the Falcons teams are shaping up heading into homecoming on Saturday.
The girls cross country team finished sixth last Saturday at the Penfield Invitational. Victoria Achtziger-Hughes continued her stellar season by finishing third out of 81 racers. She finished the 5K with a time of 21:39.52. Also racing for the Falcons, Sarah Pawlow and Julia Johnson finished with times of 24:28.95 and 24:59.31, respectively.
The boys and girls cross country teams also had a meet Tuesday versus Lockport and Niagara Falls.
Both cross country squads are back in action at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday versus Kenmore East and Grand Island at Beaver Island State Park.
Nothing new with the golf team. The team is still good. The boys are now 11-0 on the season after wins over Lewiston-Porter, Lockport, CSAT and Kenmore East.
In the victory over Lewiston-Porter, the team won 252-269. Anthony Delisanti medaled by firing a 3-under 33 at Tan Tara Golf Club. Delisanti led again in a 251-327 win over Lockport with a 38 at Lockport Town & Country Club. Lastly, versus CSAT, the team won 245-313. Nolan Codd medaled for the Falcons with a 39 at Beaver Island Golf Course.
The boys kept its win streak alive Wednesday at Brighton Golf Course versus Kenmore East - defeating the Bulldogs, 247-249. Delisanti medaled by shooting a 1-under 35. Codd also shot a 40 and Chris Cacciatore came in clutch late with a 41 to seal the victory.

Girls tennis is off to a 10-0 start as well. This past week, the girls defeated second place Lockport, 4-1, and Niagara Falls, 5-0.
