'Jeopardy!' Teachers Tournament set for May 7-18

Two-week event presented by Farmers Insurance, Thank America's Teachers
Class is in session when the "Jeopardy!" Teachers Tournament kicks off Monday, May 7 (7:30 p.m., WIVB-TV Channel 4). The two-week event, presented by Farmers Insurance in affiliation with the insurer group's Thank America's Teachers program, features 15 of the country's sharpest educators competing for the $100,000 grand prize and a spot in the next edition of the Tournament of Champions.
Additionally, Farmers Insurance, through its Thank America's Teachers program, will present each of the contestants with a $2,500 educational grant to fund classroom projects. In 2018, Farmers Insurance will award teachers more than $1 million in grants, supporting proposals that help make a difference in the lives of students across the country. Here are the 2018 "Jeopardy!" Teachers Tournament contestants, in alphabetical order:
•Jake Allen, a gifted and talented education teacher at Huntsville Intermediate School in Huntsville, Arkansas.
•Beth Binder, sixth-grade teacher at Ridgeview Classical Schools in Fort Collins, Colorado.
•Claire Bishop, a Latin teacher at Tates Creek High School in Lexington, Kentucky.
•Lee DiGeorge, an English and technology teacher at P.S./I.S. 087 Middle School in Middle Village, New York.
•Erika Eason, a technology teacher at Maret School in Washington, D.C.
•Indi Ekanayake, a science teacher at Rainier Prep in Seattle.
•Bob Julian, a social studies teacher at Ashland Middle School in Ashland, Oregon.
•Mary Alice Korth, a choir teacher at Dowagiac Union High School and Dowagiac Middle School in Dowagiac, Michigan.
•Larry Martin, a second-grade teacher at Belinder Elementary School in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.
•Steve Mond, a math teacher at Real Salt Lake Academy in Herriman, Utah.
•Scott Montanaro, a history and psychology teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School in Portland, Oregon.
•Rachel Niegelberg, a special education teacher at Watkins Glen Elementary School in Watkins Glen, New York.
•Katherine Saxby, an English and French teacher at Orinda Academy in Orinda, California.
•Ranjani Sheshadri, an English teacher at Manvel High School in Manvel, Texas
•Judy Tymkiw, an English teacher at Lakeside Middle School in Millville, New Jersey.

Through Thank America's Teachers, Farmers will give away more than $1,000,000 to educators in 2018 - and the public will help determine who receives the grants at www.ThankAmericasTeachers.com. Farmers will award 180 grants valued at $2,500 throughout the year, in addition to the five $100,000 Dream Big Teacher Challenge grants, awarded at the end of this year.
