From the peaks of the Himalayas to the jungles of Southeast Asia, National Geographic staffers have experienced the extremes of this planet in a way that few others have.
National Geographic photographers and explorers travel the globe to bring back powerful stories and images that inspire people to care about the planet and amaze people with their beauty.
Three of these explorers will come to Western New York in the "National Geographic Live" series at Kleinhans Music Hall. In dynamic and thought-provoking 90-minute presentations, they will tell their stories complete with stunning photographs and video.
The series gets underway at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, with "On the Trail of Big Cats." Photographer Steve Winter will take audiences around the globe, to locations mundane and exotic, sharing the beauty and majesty of this planet's big cat species and his adventures in capturing them on film, from getting stuck in quicksand to mishaps with remote-controlled cameras.
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018, Hilaree O'Neill will spin a tale of survival and danger in "Point of No Return." In 2014, O'Neill led a harrowing first ascent to the summit of Myanmar's Hkakabo Razi. Plagued by hypothermia and dwindling rations, the greatest danger they faced was the force of conflicting personalities within the group. O'Neill will recount the tough decisions she made to get the team through the expedition, accompanied by Cory Richards' dramatic stills and clips from Renan Ozturk's award-winning documentary film "Down to Nothing."
Ami Vitale will wrap up the series at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, with "Rhinos, Rickshaws and Revolutions." Vitale has worked in more than 90 countries in conditions rough and war-torn. She's lived in a mud hut, she's documented the war in Kosovo, and she's even donned a panda suit, all in service of her ethos of "living the story." She will share the incredible stories she's gathered from every continent on the globe, as well as her photos.
Audiences across North America and beyond have experienced the excitement of a "National Geographic Live" presentation. Now, it's Buffalo's turn. With a 75-year history of providing top entertainment that inspires, Kleinhans Music Hall is the natural venue for these events.
