Proceeds from every 'Red Nose Day Actually' T-shirt sold will further the campaign's mission to end child poverty
Comic Relief, the nonprofit behind Red Nose Day, has revealed a limited-edition "Red Nose Day Actually" T-shirt featuring cast members of the "Love Actually" reunion minifilm, set to air as part of the "Red Nose Day" (May 25) special on NBC. The T-shirt is produced in partnership with ethical clothing line UNIFORM. Proceeds of every shirt sold will support Red Nose Day, helping to further the mission of the campaign - to end child poverty, one nose at a time.
From the "Red Nose Day Actually" reunion film, the T-shirt includes cast members Rowan Atkinson, Marcus Brigstocke, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Andrew Lincoln, Martine McCutcheon, Lúcia Moniz, Liam Neeson, Bill Nighy and Olivia Olson. The design features the iconic red noses to encourage fans to "get their noses on" and join the campaign to keep children in need safe, healthy and educated. The special-edition T-shirts retail for $28 and are available online starting at rednoseday.org/tshirts
Red Nose Day has raised over $1 billion since its launch in the U.K. in 1988. It launched in the U.S. in 2015, and, in its first two years, has raised over $60 million. This is the first time a T-shirt has been offered to the public as part of Red Nose Day in the U.S. The initiative gives people another way they can support the campaign and make a difference for children in the U.S. and around world.
Richard Curtis, founder of Comic Relief and writer-director of "Love Actually," said, "It's so gorgeous to have our first Red Nose Day T-Shirt in America, particularly because it's of 'Love Actually.' "
Red Nose Day funds support programs for children in need in all 50 states and some of the poorest communities in Latin America, Africa and Asia.
A natural partner for the Red Nose Day T-shirt, UNIFORM uses ethical production practices in Liberia to transform lives in Africa. Women who work with UNIFORM are provided safe business opportunities to help them lift their families and children out of poverty. UNIFORM was founded by Chid Liberty, a Liberian-American entrepreneur, in 2016.
The Red Nose Day Actually short film will air as part of "The Red Nose Day Special" on NBC, broadcast live on May 25 at 10 pm ET/PT. "The Red Nose Day Special" is the final hour of NBC's special night of Red Nose Day programming in support of the charity. It also includes "Celebrity Ninja Warrior for Red Nose Day" (8 p.m.) and "Running Wild with Bear Grylls for Red Nose Day" (9 p.m. ET), featuring Julia Roberts in Kenya.
The 2017 Red Nose Day campaign runs from now through Red Nose Day (May 25). Readers can buy and wear a red nose, available exclusively at Walgreens and Duane Reade stores nationwide, take on a fundraising challenge and share personal stories of involvement on social media to encourage others to make a difference for children in need using #RedNoseDay and #NosesOn. Follow Red Nose Day on social media @RedNoseDayUSA.
