The Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday announced the team signed defenseman Devante Stephens to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Stephens (age 20, 6'1", 172 pounds) recently completed his third season with the Kelowna Rockets (WHL), where he established career highs in goals (13), assists (22) and points (35) during the 2016-17 season. His goal total paced all Rockets defensemen and ranked ninth in the WHL.
Buffalo's fifth-round pick (122nd overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft, Stephens has recorded 57 points (19 goals, 38 assists) and a plus-56 rating in 203 career WHL games. A native of Surrey, British Columbia, he's added 11 assists and a plus-6 rating in 46 career WHL playoff games.
