Growing Memorial/UBMD Ortho & Sports Medicine team welcomes new surgeon to Summit Healthplex

Matthew J. DiPaola, M.D., has joined the medical staff at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center as an orthopedic surgeon affiliated with UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.

DiPaola has extensive experience in treating shoulder arthritis, rotator cuff tears, sports injuries around the shoulder and elbow, and shoulder and elbow fractures. He has advanced training and expertise in shoulder and elbow replacement, arthroscopic and open rotator cuff repair, minimally invasive shoulder and elbow surgery and reverse shoulder replacement.

He joins an experienced team of orthopedic and sports medicine providers at the Summit Healthplex, 6934 Williams Road, Niagara Falls. That team includes:

•Dr. William Wind, an orthopedic surgeon who is head team physician for the American Hockey League's Rochester Americans, assistant team physician for the Buffalo Sabres and head team physician for University at Buffalo men's basketball and football.

•Dr. Scott R. Darling, a primary care sports physician who serves as head team physician for D'Youville College athletics, team physician at Daemen College, assistant team physician for University at Buffalo athletics and New York state clinical director for the Special Olympics. Darling also directs the Concussion Clinic at UBMD Orthopaedics in Niagara.

An honors graduate of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, DiPaola served his internship and surgical residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, Philadelphia. He completed his fellowship in reconstructive shoulder and elbow surgery at the University Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York City.

DiPaola is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and has published more than two-dozen research articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. He is widely respected as a medical conference lecturer and instructor.
