The Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission will once again deliver delicious turkey dinners to those in need in the Niagara Falls area on Thanksgiving Day though its "Feed the Falls" event.

Phone lines are now open, and anybody in need of a Thanksgiving meal can call 716-253-1463 (between the hours of noon and 5 p.m. weekdays) to request a meal.

The Gospel Mission is planning to deliver up to 1,500 Thanksgiving meals this year, which will be the fifth year volunteers have provided this service to the community. The event is made possible through the support of hundreds of volunteers, partnering churches and corporate and private sponsors.

Jason Myers, one of the "Feed the Falls" coordinators, said, "The event has grown annually over the last five years from initially serving 500 meals to nearly 1,500 meals expected this Thanksgiving. It's incredible how people from local churches and the entire WNY community come together to meet the needs of those in Niagara Falls. Many of those we deliver to are shut-ins, and our volunteers may be the only people they see that day. It's such a great way to share the love of Jesus Christ."

Though most volunteer slots are filled for Thanksgiving Day, those interested in helping the mission can come to its Thanksgiving Eve "Pie Party." This family friendly event will be held at Niagara Community Church (10500 Cayuga Drive, Niagara Falls) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25.

"We're asking volunteers to bring a shelf-stable pie and also help make preparations for the main event on Thanksgiving morning," Myers said. "Children are welcome to come and decorate delivery bags for those who will be receiving meals. It's really a great time for everyone."

Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission also plans to do its "Feed the Falls" meal service for Christmas and is looking for volunteers for various tasks.
