When is delicious pizza good pizza for your heart? When two of Niagara's best-known chefs decide to put their hearts into making it that way.

"Hell's Kitchen" contestant and chef Bobby Anderson will face off against Tenth Street Café executive chef Lamont Singletary in a "Healthy Pizza Showdown" from 2-5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, to see who can make the healthiest yet most delicious pizza using gourmet ingredients with heart-healthy benefits.

The event will promote February as American Heart Month and take place at the Tenth Street Café on the medical center's first floor. Along with the healthy pizza showdown, it will feature heart health screenings and interactive displays provided by the Medical Center's Heart Center of Niagara team.

A study recently released by the University of Illinois at Chicago regarding pizza's impact on children's health concluded that, on days when children consume pizza, they are more likely to take in more calories, fat and sodium than on other days. Chefs Anderson and Singletary are on a mission to prove it doesn't have to be that way.

"Living a healthy lifestyle is not learned overnight - it should be a part of culture," Anderson said. "We are trying to build a culture of healthy living. Successful eating is successful culture."

All ages are encouraged to attend the "Healthy Pizza Showdown." The program is free to the public and free parking will be available in the medical center's covered parking ramp. For more information, call 716-278-4300, option 1.
