Hard Rock "drops" 10-foot guitar from the Giacomo Hotel to ring in the new year

Get ready to rock 'n' ring in the new year. On Wednesday, Dec. 31, Hard Rock Café, Niagara Falls USA, hosts the city's sixth annual New Year's Eve Guitar Drop.

Fans can join Hard Rock and countdown to 2015 as a 10-foot guitar, painted by local artist Rob Lynch and illuminated by Ken-Ton Electronics, is lowered off the Giacomo Hotel at midnight. As part of the New Year's celebration, Hard Rock will host a free outdoor concert headlined by national recording artist Theory of a Deadman, with additional performances by Hard Rock's 2014 Hard Rock Rising winners Dirty Smile, and MENEW.

In addition to the free outdoor concert, guests can enjoy food and beverage concessions along with a fireworks display at midnight.

A portion of the proceeds from the New Year's Eve event will benefit the Niagara Falls Firefighters Christmas Toy Fund, which helps the community meet the needs of the less fortunate in Niagara Falls by providing new winter clothes and Christmas gifts for impoverished children, and a festive meal for local senior citizens during the holiday season. For more information, visit www.nf-fd.com.

The event begins at 8 p.m. on Old Falls Street (outdoor venue), adjacent to Hard Rock (333 Prospect St., Niagara Falls).

General admission is free. Those ages 21 and over looking for an outdoor party pass can call 716-304-3308 for reservations. For in-cafe New Year's Eve reservations, call 716-304-3308. For more information, visit www.hardrock.com/niagarafalls.

Formed in 2001, Canadian rock band Theory of a Deadman is most known for its post-grunge and alternative rock musical style. They've had seven top 10 hits on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, including two No. 1 hits, "Bad Girlfriend" and "Lowlife."
