Grand Island Lions Club: Annual spaghetti dinner to feature many supported agencies

The Grand Island Lions Club's 45th annual spaghetti dinner will be held Monday, April 28, at the Byblos Niagara Resort and Spa from 5 to 8 p.m. The Lions will not only offer sumptuous piles of plated pasta, a basket raffle, and a presentation of Lions' Peace Poster contest entrants, it will also offer the community access to representatives from area service agencies who will be able to provide information on their services (some free or at low cost) and even volunteer and employment opportunities.

To date, Olmsted Center for Sight, 2-1-1, Lion Ann Stadelmeier Hearing Aid Fund, Braille Group of Buffalo, Cullen Fund, Upstate New York Transplant Services, Excalibur Leisure Skills Center, Lions S.E.E (Screening Eyes Early), Miracle League of Grand Island and Western New York, Special Spaces Buffalo, and the Lions Club itself will provide information. Included will be training and employment opportunities for the visually impaired, where to go and who to see when financial or medical hardships are encountered, or how to obtain a state-of-the-art hearing aid at little or no cost. Additionally, diners can learn about volunteer opportunities with compiling books in braille, obtaining a grant for necessary eye surgery, donating tissues and organs, even how to enjoy life by touring on a boat geared to the physically challenged. Information on screening children's eyes during their early years, participating in America's favorite pastime for disabled children and young adults, obtaining free bedroom makeovers for children with life-threatening illnesses, and information of the Grand Island Lions Club will also be available.

The Grand Island Lions has partnered with more than 30 nonprofit agencies geared to providing help when and where needed. The outpouring of charity exhibited by the Island community has always been exemplary and appreciated by the Lions in providing assistance to residents.
