Town of Lewiston Recreation announces summer programs

This summer, Kiwanis Park in the Village of Lewiston and Sanborn Park in Sanborn will both offer a number of activities to area children through the Town of Lewiston Recreation Department.

From Monday, July 1 through Friday, Aug. 9, activities such as tennis, magic shows and even field trips to places such as Skateland and the Buffalo Zoo will be offered. Kiwanis Park is located at 940 Oxbow Lane, Lewiston, and Sanborn Park is located at 5811 Buffalo St., Sanborn, adjacent to the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. The Recreation Department program schedule will run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 4 p.m.

The town notes that a large number of activities will be available for children through this program. Included will be tennis instructional lessons offered at both locations Monday through Thursday at 9 a.m. for those age 10 and younger, and at 10 a.m. for those age 10 and older. Basketball is also expected to be offered, but dates and times have yet to be announced.

Programs include:

•Mike McMahon will present a watercolors activity at Kiwanis on July 9 from 10 a.m. to noon, and at Sanborn on July 16 from 10 a.m. to noon.

•Nickel City Reptiles will visit Kiwanis on July 11 from 1 to 2 p.m. and visit Sanborn the same day from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m.

•The Aquarium of Niagara's touch tank will visit Kiwanis on July 15 at 10:30 a.m., and Sanborn on July 22, also at 10:30 a.m.

•Laser tag will be offered at Kiwanis on July 23 from 10 a.m. to noon, and at Sanborn from 1 to 3 p.m.

•"Mr. No the Balloon Guy" will be performing at Kiwanis only on July 25 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, and again from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. The Recreation Department notes there will be two magic shows offered from 1 to 2 p.m. - one at Kiwanis, the other at Sanborn; dates still to be finalized.

In addition to hosting activities at the town parks, the Summer Recreation program will feature a number of field trips. Bus transportation will be provided both to and from, and parents would be able to pick up their child at the child's designated home park - Kiwanis or Sanborn. Trips include:

•Skateland on July 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for unlimited skating, laser tag and mini golf. The bus will depart Kiwanis at 10:30 a.m. and return at approximately 4 p.m. The bus for Sanborn will leave at 11 a.m. and return at the same time.

•The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester on July 17, departing from Kiwanis only at 9 a.m. and returning at approximately 4:30 p.m.

•The Buffalo Zoo, July 24, departing Sanborn at 9:45 a.m. and Kiwanis at 10:15 a.m. Children are expected to return at approximately 4 p.m.

•Fantasy Island, July 31, departing Sanborn at 10:15 a.m. and Kiwanis at 11 a.m. Children are expected to return at approximately 4 p.m.

The Recreation Department notes that another field trip is anticipated for Aug. 7, but plans have yet tot be finalized.

Still more recreation programs include adult swim and aerobics programs to be offered at Stella Niagara from July 9 to Aug. 22.

Lap and open swim will take place on Tuesdays from 8 to 9 a.m., and Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Aerobics is scheduled for Tuesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Exercise classes will take place on Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m. and Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
