As part of his "50 Years on the Carefree Highway" tour, acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot will perform at Kleinhans Music Hall at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25.

"It's easy to understand why Lightfoot is one of Canada's national treasures," said reporter Selena Frye said in her Lousiville.com review of Lightfoot's concert. "His banter is light and playful between songs, but you never lose the sense of the respect that he has for his own life's work - and his loyal fans. The strength and consistency of such finely wrought songs is apparent, and I think everyone in the audience came away with the feeling of having heard from one of music's great craftsmen."

Lightfoot has recorded 20 albums and has five Grammy nominations. His songs have been aired regularly for 50 years, earning him radio singles chart positions in North America achieved by few others. Best-known to American audiences for his ballad "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," his songs have been performed by artists ranging from Bob Dylan to Jane's Addiction, from Barbra Streisand to Toby Keith.

In June of 2012, Lightfoot's legacy was enhanced when he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. Lightfoot was honored for his role in defining the folk-pop sound of the 1960s and 1970s. There are fewer than 400 inductees who make up the impressive roster enshrined in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

In his native Canada, Lightfoot has been decorated with the highest honors bestowed to a civilian, including the Governor's General Award and the Companion to the Order of Canada honor of merit. He has also won 17 Juno Awards (Canada's equivalent to the Grammy Awards). He is a member of Canada's Walk of Fame and The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2007, Canada Post honored him by issuing an official Gordon Lightfoot postage stamp. Lightfoot is also in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.

The signature Lightfoot sound, both in the studio and on tour, centers on Lightfoot's distinct baritone voice and folk-based 12-string acoustic guitar. Most of his band has been with him for years and includes Rick Haynes on bass, Barry Keane on drums, Mike Heffernan on keyboards and, new to the group, lead guitarist Carter Lancaster.

Tickets range from $35 to $75 and will be available at http://www.kleinhansbuffalo.org or by calling 716-885-5000. Tickets go on sale June 17.
