The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra on Tuesday confirmed some cancellations and postponements of its popular summer season concerts, which usually take place in late June through July each year and draw tens of thousands of people, will be necessary.

“Although the reopening of Western New York is proceeding quickly, some of our partners have already made the decision to wait on programming until next summer, and we simply do not have guidance on what phase four will look like for arts and entertainment in order to make plans,” Executive Director Daniel Hart said. “However, we have worked with the musicians to move a few of those performance weeks to August with the hope that we may be able to present some part of our summer offerings then.”

Canceled concerts include the BPO’s appearance on the Ellicottville Summer Music Festival, at Clarence Town Park, and the M&T Plaza Event series concert. Details and updates on the status of summer events can be found by visiting bpo.org/summer.

Music Director JoAnn Falletta commented, “The musicians and I are committed to provide uplifting music for the enjoyment of our Western New York family, even if we are only together in spirit. As we explore the viability of August performances, we hope in the meantime you take advantage of the many musician videos, radio broadcasts, and televised performances being created for you by the orchestra. We hope to see you soon.”

Information on BPO television and radio broadcasts in partnership with Buffalo Toronto Public Media's WNED PBS and WNED Classical can be found at bpo.org. Several special free musical gifts to the community from individual musicians and the full orchestra are regularly posted across the BPO social media channels.

Patrons are encouraged to subscribe to the BPO email list at bpo.org to receive the latest updates, or to call the box office at 716-885-5000 with any questions. The box office is working remotely during this time, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The box office window at Kleinhans Music Hall remains closed.
